After being able to share our love for South Africa, and why I think it is one of the greatest countries to have your destination wedding in, with the readers of Brides Without Borders I thought it was time to bring it home (literally)

If I had to list the top 10 reasons why you should get married in South Africa they would be:

1. Our predominant language is English. (although we have 11 official languages)

This makes travel, wedding prep and other general logistics of getting to and around South Africa pretty easy for most of the ‘western’ world.

2. We are a culturally diverse and open minded nation.

Although our past/present may be far from perfect (who’s ever is) as a country we practice our love and faith through many different belief systems and religious views.

3. Same sex marriages are legally recognised here.

Although this is a fairly new thing for the UK and USA who have only recently joined the party in 2014 and 2015 respectively (welcome guys) we have been celebrating the fact that love is love since 30 November 2006.

4. Our current exchange rate will give most overseas travelers plenty bang for their buck.

You know how they say one man’s loss is another man’s gain? Well this is (fortunately/unfortunately, depending how you look at it) true for people traveling into South Africa. By having your wedding on our sunny shores you will get access to incredible venues and suppliers that are just totally out of your budget at home.

5. We have world class airports, wedding suppliers, venues and accommodation.

Chances are you have seen more than a few South African weddings featured on international blogs! Our creative talent, caliber of venues and natural beauty are honestly first world. (Runaway Romance have even been lucky enough to be featured on some of those international blogs – Rock n Roll Bride and Rock My Wedding)

6. Our weather is mild.

Summers aren’t blazing and winters aren’t freezing and we have blue skies most of the time regardless of the season. No really most areas in South Africa average more than 2 500 hours of sunshine per year vs a UK average of 1493 hours. So bring your sunscreen!

7. You can honeymoon in the same place you have your wedding. (This place is gorgeous!)

Where most couples only get their honey moon in a special destination by coming here you get to have a Beach wedding, safari, eco forest stay and a hike in the mountains with in about 1 hour from each other.

8. We have a lot to brag about.

We are the home to Africa’s Big 5 and one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
As if that wasn’t enough we are also home to 8 world heritage sites and have the only street in the world to house two Nobel Peace prizewinners. Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu both have houses on Vilakazi Street in Soweto. #justsaying

9. I’m not the only one into less hype more happy.

Getting married here requires very little paper work. Have a look at the official government website to see exactly how easy it is.
