Jason and Nicole have the most beautifully simple, easy, meant to be kind of love.

Which now that I have met the Hartford/Otte swarm I can confidently say comes from/was taught/nurtured by their families.

I got to experience Jason & Nicole’s special, simple way of being in little snippets of morning/evening Skype’s (because they live in Canada the time difference made my nights and their mornings ‘our thing’) in the facts I learnt about them in the months leading up to their wedding and on their wedding day as their very wet, Shweshwe city chic celebration  unfolded.

Jason & Nicole’s love of Johannesburg was celebrated by having a rooftop ceremony at  Living Room and a courtyard reception at The Canteen in the Maboneng precinct.

I call this family a swarm because there were so many aunts, siblings, cousins, friends (& I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a well-meaning stranger or two swept up in the excitement) that descended on the venue to help with flowers, hanging, rearranging, bringing in from the rain, carrying out, cutting up and generally being happy, that at times I’m sure this little group buzzed.

Needless to say, due to the rain we changed every plan we had multiple times, molded spaces as the rain stopped or started (sorry Travis- Travis ended up moving his sound set up about 5 times) & just went with it.

We set up long family style tables with all white flowers, ‘take me home’ succulents (that doubled as guest favors) & tin lanterns as decor. Handmade Shewshew bunting hung above the tables to tie in our eclectic urban feel.

Hartford/Otte swarm the day would not have been such a success if not for you and the way you rolled with it.

Jason & Nicole I am so SO lucky to have couples and families like you! Thank you for including me in this incredibly special celebration of your lives together.

Nearly Everything you see at this wedding that was made, folded or sewn was done by Natasha, Nicole’s sister. The hundreds of origami butterflies, the Shewshwe bunting & the book page proteas. Oh The groom and best man made the # sign, Nicole’s brother in law made the lanterns and the mums grew the succulents!
