Theuns and Ewald planned their elopement in secret and only a few days before they said ‘I Do’ actually told friends and family their plans.
Theuns & Ewalda wanted a literature inspired elopement with a touch of Alice in Wonderland magic. Not only because words are so important to them but because their relationship and their story is so close to a real life fairy tale. Nothing is as it seems and the story and meaning that lie below the surface of these presumably simple souls is deep and beautiful.
We celebrated their elopement ceremony on the balcony of Zietsies Guest house and I got to watch (as the only ‘guest’) as they did a hand tying ceremony instead of exchanging rings.
We then threw a decedent high tea (and a few hundred book pages – with the help of some very excited little people – as confetti) for them in the glass dining room. Handmade paper roses, delicate book page touches and acid green cymbidium orchids all came together to create their fairy tale high tea décor.
As the sun set over Johannesburg they shared their first dance and relished in their secret, stolen afternoon…proving that “It was always you” was more than just the words on their ceremony backdrop.
Theuns & Ewalda, thank you for allowing me to see into your precious ‘wonderland’, relationship & life together. I know that it is an honor not many get, and I am deeply grateful.
